Who are we?

Saffron Walden Community Church is an independent Christian congregation located in the heart of Saffron Walden. Our aim is to make Jesus central to our lives and our relationships, and to provide an open and welcoming community where anyone can explore what it means to be a Christian in today’s world. (Before we moved to our present location, we met in Gold Street as “Gold Street Chapel”.)

Alpha Course

Starting on Wednesday 11 October, we shall be running our next Alpha course, designed to allow those with little or no knowledge of the Christian faith to learn more and ask all the questions they need to decide what to make of it.
Each evening starts at 7.30pm with a meal, followed by a video addressing a common question about Christianity, and then plenty of time to discuss questions and issues arising. The course will take place on the following days:
Wednesdays 11 & 18 October, 1, 8 & 15 November, and Saturday 18 November.

Question church

These morning services, while running at the normal time of 10.30am, are usually a little more informal and are focussed more closely on exploring a single topic. They are frequently interactive, encouraging questions and discussion among those present.

26 Nov: Different ways God calls us How can we know God’s calling?

Forthcoming Sunday Specials

This year our monthly Sunday Specials look at tough texts in the Bible — either passages that are hard to understand, hard to accept, or hard to reconcile with other parts of the Bible.

October 29: What do we mean by ‘the atonement’?
November 26: Did the archangel Michael really dispute with the devil over the body of Moses?

All sessions start at 6pm for coffee and cake, followed by a talk and discussion from 6.30pm to 7.30pm, with time to linger afterwards
